Nutritional Standards
Little Village is a participant in the Child/Adult Care Food Program
sponsored by the Department of Agriculture. The cost of your child’s
snacks and lunches is figured in with their tuition. Meals are served
family-style, and your child is encouraged to taste everything. Each
day, we provide a morning and afternoon snack for your child. These
consist of a grain product (such as crackers, muffins, cookies, toast,
or a sandwich), along with fruit, fruit juice, or milk. A hot lunch
is provided for extended care children. This meal meets the standards
set up by the Child/Adult Care Food Program and meets one-third of
your child’s daily nutritional requirements. Little Village
is a PEANUT FREE school. Due to the increasing number of children
with peanut allergies, we ask that no treats, snacks, or breakfast
foods be brought into Little Village that contain peanuts or peanut
products or are processed on equipment that processes nut products.
Reading package labels will provide this information and warnings.
If your child has a special dietary need, we will try to provide
for that need; however, a written request from your child’s
physician is required. If for religious reasons your child cannot
eat a particular food, we can also meet this need upon written
request from the clergy of your church. WE CANNOT MEET TASTE PREFERENCES.
If you feel your child has been discriminated against, you may contact:

Health Requirements
A physician’s certificate of good health and an immunization
form must be completed annually to meet the standards established
by the Colorado Department of Social Services.
Only medication prescribed by a physician and accompanied by the
appropriate form can be administered at Little Village. Copies of
these forms are in the back of your Little Village Handbook. Copies
of these forms are available in the Little Village office for your
child’s physician to complete. . Medication must remain in
the original container bearing the pharmacy label with the child’s
name and dosage directions. Each prescription requires a new form
(except breathing medication.) Please do not ask us to do otherwise.
Medicine must be stored in the Little Village Office. At no time
can any medication be kept in a child’s backpack or cubby.

Childhood Illness
If your child becomes ill during the day, you will be notified immediately.
It will then become your responsibility to see that your child is
picked up as soon as possible.
If your child is running a fever, vomiting, or unable to participate
in the activities of the day for health reasons, PLEASE keep them
at home. We do not have the facilities to care for sick children.
If your child is going to be absent because of illness or any other
reason, PLEASE notify the Little Village Office at 303-452-2944.

Accidents
Little Village staff will notify parents of accidents that happen
to children and what was done at the time of accident. At the end
of your child’s day the following information will be included
in a report for parental notification.
1. Child’s name
2. Date and Time
3. A brief description of the accident and the treatment
4. Signature of the staff member attending your child
5. A place for the parent’s signature indicating they were
notified.
In the event a child’s accident requires urgent care or professional
medical attention a report will be made to the Colorado Department
of Human Services Division of Childcare. A copy will be given to
the parent and one kept in the child’s file.

Release of Child
We will only release your child to the individuals named on the
Little Village registration form, or with a hand-written note signed
by a parent or legal guardian. At the time your child is picked up,
identification from the individual will be required. If we receive
a telephone call authorizing us to release your child, every effort
will be made to identify the caller’s identity. This will be
done by returning telephone calls. Be sure to leave a number where
you can be reached at the time of a call requesting a child’s
release.
PLEASE NOTE: If there is a court order concerning your child’s
custody, it is important we have a copy for our records. That would
speed up any action the police may take.
Pick up of Children
All children attending Little Village are enrolled under scheduled
times. Pre-school children are to be picked up at 11:30 a.m. Little
Village closes at 6:00 p.m. and all day care children need to be
picked up by 6:00 p.m. If your child is not picked up within 30
minutes of their scheduled time and we cannot reach you through
any of the
emergency contact numbers, we will notify the Thornton Police Department
and Adams County Department of Social Services.
It is important that you keep us advised of any phone number changes
and in the event you will be late that you notify us. Staff members
may not take children home with them without special written permission
from you as the parent .
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES IS A STAFF MEMBER TO TAKE A CHILD HOME WITHOUT
WRITTEN CONSENT.

Emergency Medical Care
In the event Little Village facilities need to be evacuated, we
would take the children to Good Shepherd Methodist Church, located
at 12761 Colorado Boulevard. You would be notified to pick up your
children at that location.
Fire Drills are practiced at regular intervals so your child will
know what to do in the event of a fire. This will help eliminate
some of the fear your child may experience.
In the event of a tornado watch, Staff will keep radio or television
tuned to emergency notification information. In the event of a tornado
warning, the children will be taken to the hallways, and mats will
be placed on their laps until the warning is over.
If we have a blizzard during school hours, we will do everything
in our power to keep our regular hours. In the event we lose power
to the school, supplying our heat and lights, you will be requested
to pick up your children. Staff will remain at Little Village until
all children are picked up. We request you keep us informed in the
event you are delayed due to the weather.
If a decision is made to close Little Village due to weather, we
will try to accomplish that prior to 9:00 p.m. the night before,
to allow you time to make other arrangements for your child. If the
decision cannot be made the night before, you will be notified by
telephone, and we will do our best to have local television stations
announce the closing as well. Once a decision is made, we will not
reverse that decision. We will base our decision on Adams County
School District 12 closing, as well as reports received from local
television stations.
If the weather is too warm to safely play outside on the playground,
one of the two following options will be implemented: 1. Activities will take place in the gym, such as table toys, coloring
sheets, supervised group games, building with bricks, or watching
a movie. Based on the abundance of space and staff available, several
of these activities may be going on at the same time to allow your
child a choice.
2. Utilization of the grassy areas on the north and east sides
of the building for outdoor play. These two areas allow the children
to still play safely and comfortable outside.
